Virovitica, March 2, 2006 – In order to stimulate production of quality sugar beet, sugar factory Viro awarded its best subcontractors with “Zlatna repa” award. Eight awards were given to Croatian producers and the award for the sugar beet of the highest quality was given to the long-standing Hungarian partner.
“With Zlatna repa award we wish to additionally stimulate our subcontractors to generate sugar yield per acre as much as possible so that by the year 2008 we gain yields of more than 70 tonnes per acre. This way we will ensure not only quality source material, but also a stabile future for the producers”, stated Marinko Zadro, representative of the majority owner.
For the third successive year, sugar factory Viro granted nine “Zlatna repa” awards in five categories. Big farm Gradina is the winner of Zlatna repa” in the category of producers with the farmland larger than 100 acres. The winner in the category of producers with the farmland up to 100 acres is Josip Ligda. “Zlatna repa” was also won by Josip Rep and Ivan Rogić in the category of producers with the land up to 10 acres. Agrokontrola Zagreb, P.O. Petrović from Sveti Đurađ, Poljokop from Podravska Selnica and the company KWS were awarded for long-standing successful business cooperation. Hungarian company “Grain” Kereskedelmi es Szolgaltato Kft. was awarded for sugar beet of the highest quality.
The professors from Zagreb’s Faculty of Agronomics and German Sugar Beet Producing Institute held traditional expert presentations, this time about choosing the sugar beet species and the news on protecting and fertilising it. |
