Zagreb, Croatia, May 17, 2006 – Zeljko Zadro, representative of Viro sugar factory and Dr. Bernhard Greubel, managing partner of Pfeifer & Langen Kommanditgesellschaft signed an agreement to begin a strategic cooperation between both companies. The cooperation is aiming at an exchange of experiences regarding sugar production technology, production of household sugar and sugar distribution in order to improve the competitiveness of Viro sugar factory on the EU sugar market. Pfeifer & Langen will in return be given the occasion to expand its distribution activities in the territory of former Yugoslavia.
“Viro and Pfeifer & Langen will strengthen existing cooperation by establishing a new company with equal ownership share. Through the new company, Viro will benefit from Pfeifer & Langen’s 130 years of experience in sugar and sugar beet production as well as from synergies in purchasing thus also preparing the factory’s entry into the EU”, stated Zeljko Zadro, representative of Viro sugar factory.
Besides its 130 years of experience in sugar production, Pfeifer & Langen also looks back on a tradition of more than 100 years of sugar distribution under its brands “Diamant” and “Kölner Zucker”. This European distribution network supplies customised sugar to clients in the sugar processing industry and provides consumers with a wide range of household sugars (1 Kg packages, sugar cubes, candy sugar, jellying sugar, decorating sugar, Coffee Sugar and others) under the European brand “Diamant”. With the new company, Viro sugar factory will become a part of this European distribution network.
In addition, Viro and Pfeifer & Langen intend to expand their partnership by cooperating in searching new acquisition possibilities on the territory of former Yugoslavia. These acquisitions shall be realized through the new company.
Pfeifer & Langen is a european sugar producer with production sites in Germany, Poland and Romania, the latter being a joint venture between Pfeifer & Langen and French Cristal Union, Bazancourt. The total production volume reaches more than 1 million tons of sugar. In France, Pfeifer & Langen is represented with its affialiate Chamtor S.A., Bazancourt, a producer of glucose and starch. Chamtor’s annual capacity amounts to 400.000 tons of wheat processed. In the sugar sector, Pfeifer & Langen is also represented in Hungary and the Czech Republic by company-owned distribution companies.
Further business activities of Pfeifer & Langen group are the production and distribution of instant teas, chocolates, vitamin products, potato chips snacks and nuts. These products are either commercialised under own brand names or under private labels. |
