Virovitica, March 9th, 2007 – Viro Sugar Factory presented Golden Sugar Beet awards forth year in a row. Six Golden Sugar Beets were presented to the best cooperants, while best business partners won three awards.
«The price of sugar beet makes 60 percent of the price in the sugar industry, and we are trying to motivate those producers who already satisfy European standards as well as those who have yet to do it, to produce quality source material in order to ensure profit and enable long-term survival and development of Croatian sugar industry» – stated Damir Barić, Viro Sugar Factory CEO.
Belje company from Darda was declared the best sugar beet producer with agricultural land larger than 100 ha in 2006, while Sjemenske kulture company won Golden Sugar Beet in the category of producers with up to 50 ha of agricultural land. Golden Sugar Beet award for the best producer with up to 50 ha of agricultural land was presented to Franjo Puhar, while Marko Franjić won Golden Sugar Beet in the category of producers with up to 10 ha of agricultural land. In the category of best digestion, Golden Sugar Beet was presented to Ivica Malnar, while Kun-Farm KFT company from Kiskumlachaz (Hungary) won the prize for best quality sugar beet in 2006. Golden Sugar Beets for successful long-standing cooperation was presented to Ivanka Zlopaša, Director of Strategic Buyers Sector in Konzum and Ivan Đurkić, Headmaster of Institute for Seed and Seedlings, while Pfiefer & Langen, German sugar producer, won the award for successful business cooperation.
After the presentation of Golden Sugar Beet awards, the Assistant to Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Miroslav Božić and Željko Zadro, Viro Sugar Factory procurist, gave lectures on the sugar industry reform in European Union, and current circumstances and guidelines of Croatian sugar industry development, while Damir Tomašević from Bayer Crop Science talked about the preparations of Croatian producers for obligations and standards in pesticide use after Croatia is admitted to EU. |
